Malachite
Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral found in the Congo in Africa, Urals in Russia, Broken Hill NSW and many other locations. It is fairly soft with a hardness of 3.5 -4 on the Mohs scale. Malachite was used as a pigment in paint until about 1800, as it was sensitive to acids and light pigments. It often grows as stalactites but can also take several other forms. It often has wavy or circular patterns with varying shades of green making it a very pretty stone and excellent for carving. It is also often seen growing with or in combination with Azurite, the bright green of the Malachite and the bright royal blue of the Azurite make a striking stone.
It is a heart stone and often used for emotional protection, it is also a great protection stone for children. We have a large range of natural pieces as well as carvings and jewellery. |
